Market update
 

• Employment in leisure and hospitality continued to trend up in December (+53,000).
• Leisure and hospitality has added 2.6 million jobs in 2021, but employment in the industry is down by 1.2 million, or 7.2 percent, since February 2020.

­­NORTH AMERICA:
 

• Hawks Cay Resort has appointed Jordyn Boonie as its Director of Rooms. He is now responsible for overseeing the housekeeping, front desk, concierge, and guest services departments.

 

• The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa Avon, Vail Valley has welcomed Alejandro Cerda as the new Director of Food & Beverage. He takes on the role with more than 18 years of experience in the hospitality industry.

 

• Best Western Hotels & Resorts announced that it has appointed Jay Pricher as General Counsel. Pricher will be responsible for setting and managing strategic direction, and providing guidance on corporate legal issues, including board and governance matters.

 

• Robert Lowe has been appointed as General Manager and Area Vice President, Operations at Mandarin Oriental, New York. Robert is a veteran hotelier with over 30 years of hospitality industry experience. His career with the Group began in 1999 and he has held senior commercial and leadership roles.

 

• Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel announced Kevin Kelly as Director of Sales and Marketing at the Chicago hotel. Kelly joins Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel from Hyatt Hotels Corporation where he most recently served as Vice President of Select Sales in Chicago.

 

• Benjamin Buckley takes up the role of Assistant General Manager at The Laylow, Autograph Collection in Honolulu.  He will focus on curating a vibe that's exactly like nothing else, which includes supervising room operations to ensure a memorable guest experience.

 

• Cvent Inc in Tysons appointed Marcela Martin as Board Member in Virginia. She has been the Chief Financial Officer of Squarespace since November 2020. Prior to joining Squarespace, she held several executive leadership positions.

 

• Jim Frankola has been appointed as Board Member at Cvent in Tysons. His experience working as a financial executive with cloud-based technology and software companies will make him an asset to the New Cvent Board.

 

• Maestro is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Kelly as a Senior Solutions Consultant. A Maestro veteran for 23 years, He has been an active part of the Maestro service and management teams since 1996.

 

• Inn at The Pier in Pismo Beach is pleased to welcome Stefen Shatto as the seaside hotel's new Executive Chef. With a decade of experience in the culinary industry, Chef Stefen is sure to bring a new flavor to Blonde Restaurant & Bar.

 

• Paul St. John has been appointed as Senior Account Executive at Birch Street Systems in Newport Beach, CA. He is a seasoned sales executive with decades of experience in hospitality industry focused on enterprise software.

 

• The LaSalle Chicago, Autograph Collection appointed Stefan Gruvberger as the General Manager in Illinois. He has more than 25 years of experience working with luxury hotel properties.

 

• Shannon Moore has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at The LaSalle Chicago. She will oversee the hotel’s marketing and brand position as a modern, luxury destination, in addition to ensuring the team meets ambitious sales and revenue goals.

 

• Liz Dahlager has been appointed as Executive Vice President at Merete Hotel Management in Springfield. Her responsibilities will be expanded to include hotel operations and human resources.

 

• Javier Hernandez has been named Executive Chef at The Alida, Savannah, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel.  His responsibilities will include the hiring and training of all culinary staff, budget creation, management, development, and oversight of menus.

 

• Hard Rock International announced the appointment of Daniel Earle as Director of Global Travel Industry Sales for Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos. He will draw on more than two decades of experience across 11 different countries in the hospitality industry.

 

• Robert Ishihara has been promoted to General Manager at Kings' Land by Hilton Grand Vacations. He will also oversee nearby resorts Kohala Suites and The Bay Club.

 

• Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the appointment of Franziska Weber as Senior Vice President and head of global communications. She will oversee integrated global communications across all stakeholder groups for the company.

 

• John Stack has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Conrad Nashville. He will direct the property's sales efforts including group sales, corporate travel, catering, developing annual sales goals and implementing strategies.

 

• Commonwealth Hotels announced that Ginger Thompson has been appointed as the Director of Sales and Marketing of the Home2 Suites El Reno Oklahoma. She built her career with multiple brands in key markets.

 

• Noelle Stevenson has been appointed as Director at Connecticut Office of Tourism. She has been responsible for marketing, advertising, brand strategy, public relations, partnerships, festivals and events, and hospitality programs.

 

• Performance Hospitality Management announced the appointment of Mark Anderson as Chief Operations Officer. He is an industry veteran with more than 35 years of diverse hospitality and management experience.

 

• Jerome Strack has been appointed as General Manager at Mar Monte Hotel, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand in Santa Barbara, CA. He is a seasoned hotelier with 40 years of hospitality experience and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from numerous hospitality groups.

 

• Hotel Emeline announced Carly Skinner as General Manager in Charleston. She will be responsible for managing the overall hotel operations of Emeline, including oversite of hotel staff, budget, and guest satisfaction. 

 

• Jon Keeley takes up the role of Executive Chef at The Art Hotel Denver, Curio Collection by Hilton. He will bring an elevated, world-class dining experience to Denver's downtown neighborhood at FIRE, with the perfect blend of culinary creativity and desire to exceed the needs of his guests.

 

• Pablo Molinari joined Four Seasons New York Downtown as Hotel Manager. He has worked his way through various roles in South and North America with the Aparium Hotel Group and Hyatt hotels.

 

• Stacey King Brogan has been appointed as General Manager at The Virginian Lodge in Jackson Hole. She brings her destination and management expertise to lead the renovation of The Virginian Lodge. 

 

• Cabot announced that Hannes Portmann has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer. He will oversee company and property-level finances and manage accounting, strategic planning, and corporate strategy.

 

• Yajaira Torres has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta. She is excited to continue cultivating meaningful partnerships while spearheading the property's sales and marketing initiatives.

 

• Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta appointed Kristi Cotten-Morris as General Manager. She brings over 26 years of experience in the hospitality industry, 24 of which have been with Hyatt hotels. 

 

• Adam Heffron has been named as the General Manager of the new luxurious 305-room Conrad Los Angeles. He plays a pivotal role in redefining the luxury hospitality experience with the new hotel's highly anticipated opening and suite of offerings.

 

• Malcolm Mitchell has been named as Corporate Director of Restaurants and Bars at Donohoe Hospitality in Washington. He will be responsible for overseeing the F & B experience for the existing portfolio.

 

• Best Western Hotels & Resorts announced John L. Kelly as Board Chairman for 2022. He brings decades of hospitality experience and 28 years of Best Western ownership to his role as Chairman. 

 

• Janelle Pankiewicz has been appointed as the Dual Director of Sales and Marketing at Hilton Garden Inn Panama City and the Hampton Inn Panama City Beach. She served as the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Rogers, Minnesota.

 

• Lodging Dynamics Hospitality Group announced the appointment of Tim Dooley as its Vice President of Finance.  He brings extensive experience streamlining financial and accounting services for hotel owners and critical stakeholders.

 

• John Hickey has been appointed as the General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Columbus Worthington. He brings over 12 years of hospitality experience to his new role.

 

• Amrita Ahuja joined Airbnb, Inc. as Board Member. She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at Block, formerly known as Square, and is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Duke University.

 

• Kevin M. Davis has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at JLL America. With a deep background in capital markets, he spent 13 years prior to JLL working in the commercial real estate groups at Merrill Lynch and UBS.

 

• Montage Healdsburg announced the appointment of Sarah McIntosh as Resort Manager. She takes up the responsibility to oversee housekeeping, front office, security, and residential services operations.

 

• Hilton announces the appointment of Juan Corvinos Solans as Senior Vice President (SVP) of development, architecture, and construction for the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA). He also oversees architecture and construction team of top-notch industry-expert architects, engineers, and project directors.

 

• Oliver Dudler has been appointed as General Manager at Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences in MA. He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in luxury brand and hotel management to this role, having led numerous award-winning properties.

 

• Radisson Hotel Group Americas (RHGA) announced Tom Buoy, Chief Commercial Officer, will serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer. The company remains focused on the future and the continued success of RHGA hotels.

 

• Kurt Ekert has been appointed as President at Sabre in Southlake, Texas. He will oversee all aspects of the company's business and technology operations, including the company's technology transformation.

 

• Dream Hotel Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Laura Mutterperl to the newly created position of Chief Legal Officer. She worked for several years in various positions after a stint in the corporate department of legal powerhouse Kirkland & Ellis.

 

• Vanessa Prado takes the role as Director of Sales & Marketing at Kimpton La Peer Hotel in West Hollywood. She has worked in the hospitality industry for more than ten years.

 

• Hotel Viking announces the appointment of Executive Chef Patrick Popores. In his new role, he will oversee the guest dining experience in all properties.

 

• Innisfree Hotels is pleased to announce the promotion of Chef Manuel Rodriguez to Corporate Director of Food & Beverage. He will oversee all dining and drinking experiences at Innisfree’s Gulf Coast properties.

 

• The Chanler at Cliff Walk has named Cheryl Twiss the new Director of Sales. She brings experience, enthusiasm, great communication and fresh air to the sales program.

 

• Playa Hotels & Resorts has promoted Fernando Mulet to Chief Investment Officer. He will assume asset management duties, which include oversight of capital investment and project management.

 

• Newport Hospitality Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Hoefling as Vice President of Operations. He will focus on working with NHG leadership, on property teams, and hotel ownership to develop short term and long-term financial plans.

 

• Aaron Rodriguez has been appointed as General Manager at Aloft Austin Southwest in Texas. He has been in the industry since 2014.

 

• Residence Inn by Marriott Austin Southwest appointed Michelle Cowart as General Manager. She has previously worked at Holiday Inn Club Vacations and Silverleaf Resorts. 

 

• Kimpton Hotel Fontenot is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristin Crawford as Director of Sales and Marketing for the property.  Her responsibilities will include managing the hotel's sales and marketing strategies.

 

• Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment announced the appointment of Haven Pope as Chief Accounting Officer. He will oversee a comprehensive system of financial reporting and analysis for MGE and its subsidiaries.

 

• Ryan Grade has been appointed as General Manager at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole. The hotel brings him back to the Five-Star Mountain property that launched his Four Seasons career in 2010.

 

• Rick Norman has been promoted to General Manager of the new Courtyard/Residence Inn by Marriott in Jekyll Island, Georgia. He is a career hotelier and a lifelong community volunteer. 

 

• The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa is pleased to announce that Lauren Warkentin has been named as Spa Director. Warkentin most recently served as Club Manager at The Westin Riverfront's Athletic Club.

 

• Chad Armijo has been promoted as Club Director at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Avon, Vail Valley. He is also an NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) Certified Master Life Coach, an NLP Certified Ericksonian Hypnotherapist, and the author of two books.

 

• The Ritz-Carlton is pleased to announce Juan Pablo Dominguez as Executive Chef. He joins the team with an impressive background working at top hotel restaurants around the globe over the past several years.

 

• Jim Abrahamson has been appointed on Board Chair at CWT. He is also a former Chairman the Board of both the U.S. Travel Association and the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

 

• CWT appointed Alan Bowers on Audit & Finance Committee Chair. He has been a certified public accountant since 1978 and served as staff auditor, audit partner and managing partner.

 

• Ellen Keszler has been appointed in HR & Compensation Committee Chair at CWT. She served as President and Chief Executive Officer focused on the technology and travel industries, since 2008.

 

• CWT has announced the appointment of Tom O’ Toole in Nominating & ESG Committee Chair.  He was previously the Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Information Officer of Hyatt Hotels Corporation. 

 

• Theresa Wise takes up the role as Board Director at CWT. She has been principal consultant and managing partner of Utaza, LLC.

 

• Donna Wells has been appointed as Board Director at CWT. She was previously President, Chief Executive Officer, and a board member of Mind flash Technologies, a B2B software company.

 

• The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is pleased to announce Adam Tyler as Director of Food & Beverage. He will oversee the operations of the resort's restaurants.

 

• Nico Mamon has been appointed as Director of Marketing at Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley. He cut his sales teeth at Four Seasons Hotel Macao on non-Chinese speaking international group business while learning day-to-day Cantonese to adapt to the culture and connect to the people.

 

• Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley has appointed Adora Manalo as General Manager. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience to the property.

• Santiago Rivera has been appointed as Managing Director at Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya and Hilton Tulum All – Inclusive Resort.  Rivera is responsible for leading the opening of both properties, administering management across hotel operations, and spearheading the development and execution of strategic sales and marketing initiatives.

 

• Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya appoints Javier Martinez as Hotel Manager. He will manage the administration of all day-to-day hotel services and activities at the new hotel. 

 

• WTS International, a global provider of hospitality and amenity services announced the appointment of hospitality veteran John Edwards as Chief Information Officer, bringing over 24 years of technology experience.

 

• Wynn Resorts, Limited announced it will appoint Julie Cameron-Doe as its Chief Financial Officer, effective in the second quarter of 2022. She has served as Chief Financial Officer since 2018 and will bring a wealth of diverse financial experience.

 

• St Julien Hotel & Spa announces Aaron Coburn as General Manager. He brings an impressive track record in the hospitality industry. 

 

• Rich Byers has been appointed as Executive Chef at St Julien Hotel & Spa. He brings an understanding of global flavors and a strong background in team leadership.

 

• Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita has appointed Gilles Arzur as Executive Chef. In his new role, he will find his home among the individual pool villas and exotic nature of the Resort.

• Marriott International has announced the promotion of Werther Veulemans to Cluster Social Media Manager. Moving up from his prior position as Complex Social Media Marketing Manager, he now spearheads social media for nine UAE Marriott properties.

 

• Anantara Dubai The Palm has a new Director of Finance - Mohit Kohli. He joins the resort having spent more than 20 years in the industry and will be responsible for driving the financial health at the helm of the resort.

 

• Maurice Fitzgerald has been appointed as Director of Food & Beverage at Anantara Dubai The Palm, UAE. He first joined the property in 2014 as Executive Chef, at the time leading 110 chefs and 3,000 daily covers. 

 

• Michael Pearson is the new Executive Chef at Anantara Dubai The Palm, UAE. Before joining the Minor Hotels property, he had a successful culinary career stretching back over 30 years.

 

• Anantara Dubai The Palm, UAE has appointed Julia Margariti as Assistant Director of F&B. Moving between management roles in both events and F&B, Maragariti has worked for the likes of Rotana, Radisson, and Starwood.

 

• Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas has announced the appointment of Saleh Bataineh as its Deputy General Manager. With over 24 years of experience, he brings a wealth of experience from managing luxury properties.

 

• Waldorf Astoria Kuwiat has appointed Kemal Sirtikirmizi as General Manager. He brings more than 20 years of international hospitality experience across North America, the Middle East and North Africa and Turkey, having worked with many luxury brands.

 

• Claudio Cardoso has been appointed as Culinary Director at SLS Dubai Hotel & Residences. His culinary philosophy and approach will bring global experience to SLS as well as a bold approach and creativity with food.

 

• The Jordan Marriott Hotels has appointed Sena Kahraman as multi-property Director of Marketing and Communications. She brings 17 years of experience in hospitality, and has held various sales, marketing, and revenue roles in hotels.

 

• Khalid Al Ashqar has been appointed as Director of Sales and Marketing at InterContinental Al Jubail Resort in Dubai. He has been in the industry for 20 years, starting out as a receptionist.

 

• Mohammad Alsayigh has been named as Front Office Manager at InterContinental Al Jubail Resort. He has been in the industry since 2015, working with Sofitel Al Khobar, The Corniche as an Accounting Supervisor.

 

• Binu Varghese has been promoted by R Hotels to General Manager of Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Dubai JBR. He brings in more than 20 years of hospitality experience.

 

• Crowne Plaza Resort Salalah, Oman has appointed Anoop Joseph as its Director of Sales and Marketing. He will head up both departments as he focuses on driving top-line revenue at the property.

 

• The Ritz-Carlton, Doha has promoted Vusal Ismayilov to Director of Sales & Marketing. He has had a stellar year at the property, over-achieving his department goals during his stint as Director of Sales.

 

• The St. Regis Downtown Dubai has brought in Stefano Micoccia as its new Executive Chef to help lead culinary operations. He was a driving force in the successful launch of Bussola in the Emirate when it first opened.

 

• Cosimo Lardo has been promoted as Director of Food & Beverage at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. His steady rise through the ranks is testament to a strong work ethic but also that of patience and dedication.

 

• Christopher Klein is promoted as Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. He has quickly established himself at the Hotel, working tirelessly to uphold the highest standards of guest experience.

 

• Yousuf Al Rahbi has been promoted as Hotel Manager at InterContinental Muscat, Oman.  He will continue to oversee the hotel's day-to-day operations and will focus on implementing his operational development plan.

 

• Marriott Hotel Al Forsan in Abu Dhabi has appointed Ammar Helal as the new Director of Sales and Marketing. He has a solid sales background with 15 years in hospitality industry.

 

• Aziz Sharipov has been appointed as Director of Sales at Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection. He joins the property with over 12 years of experience in sales.

 

• Habtoor Grand Resort has appointed Marley Flattley as Executive Chef. He will head up 11 restaurants, leveraging his 20 years of culinary experience. 

 

• Mohammed Hansif Al Qassim has been appointed as Member Global Advisory Council at Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals. He will serve in a three-year term commencing in 2022.

 

• Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina is pleased to announce Karim Maycock as the new Executive Chef. He will oversee operations and menu development at all food and beverage outlets.
