Market update

• Employment in leisure and hospitality continued to increase, with a gain of 179,000 in February. Job growth occurred in food services and drinking places (+124,000) and in accommodation (+28,000). 
• Since February 2020, employment in leisure and hospitality is down by 1.5 million, or 9 percent.
  
  

 
Recent Appointments
 
­­NORTH AMERICA:

• Brian Patel has been appointed as Senior Vice President and National Director of Hospitality Division at Marcus & Millichap. Most recently, he served as an officer for the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) since 2017 and as chairman from 2020 through 2021.

• The Compass by Margaritaville, Anna Maria Sound, has named Beth Muzik as its General Manager. She has worked in a leadership role in food and beverage and property operations for more than 25 years. 

• Smyth Tribeca announced that Mark Pandaleon has been appointed as General Manager. With more than 15 years of New York City hotel management experience, he has a deep understanding for the hotel business from both front and back of house roles.

• Cliff Atkinson has been appointed as President of Fontainebleau Las Vegas. He has already assumed leadership as it continues to build its in-house team, and he will continue to execute the strategy laid out by Fontainebleau Development.

• John D’Angelo has been appointed as General Manager as Grand Hyatt Vail. As a seasoned hotel executive, he brings proven expertise, caring leadership, and enthusiasm to Grand Hyatt Vail.

• Dragan Andrejic has been appointed as General Manager at The Nines, A Luxury Collection Hotel. He has experience in a variety of leadership positions within the hospitality industry.

• JW Marriott phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the appointment of Paige Lund to the role of General Manager. She brings more than 25 years of experience to her new role at the resort celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

• Michael Klein has been appointed as General manager at The Eliza Jane. He will oversee the property's 196 guestrooms including 50 suites, two food & beverage outlets, fitness center, lush garden courtyard, and more than 1,700-square-feet of multi-purpose event space.

• HALL Arts Hotel, a Curio Collection by Hilton announced the appointment of Ilana Kadoche as its new Director of Food and Beverage. She will not only oversee all food and beverage operations but will also serve as the General Manager of Ellie's, the art-filled eatery located within the hotel.

• Lodging Dynamics Hospitality Group announced the appointment of Sherif Guirguis as its Chief Operating Officer.  He oversaw all aspects of hotel operations and owner relations.

• Amy Cantu has been appointed as Assistant General Manager at Aloft Austin Southwest. She brings over 10 years of hospitality experience in various roles.

• Lance Tucker has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer at Davidson Hospitality Group. He will be tasked with overseeing budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the company's long-term strategy.

• Todd Shallan is appointed as Managing Director at Silverado Resort and Spa. He joins the team with more than 30 years of hospitality industry experience.

• Gus Tejeda has been appointed as Director of Sales and Marketing at Omni PGA Frisco Resort. He is a transformational leader, and sales and marketing visionary with more than 20 years of experience working with luxury hotels and resorts.


• Jeff Smith has been appointed as Vice President and Managing Director at Omni PGA Frisco Resort. He has served in numerous leadership capacities throughout his career.

• Hilton has announced the appointment of Pauline Wilson to the role of Vice President, Focused Service Operations, EMEA. The role has direct responsibility for 60 Hilton-managed hotels in the group's focused service portfolio.

• Adam Arencibia has been named Executive Chef at Hyatt Centric Beale Street Memphis. He will oversee the hotel's culinary program by curating enticing menus and a distinctive dining experience for the hotel's signature restaurant.

• Tony France has been appointed as Executive Chef at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas in Irving. His responsibilities include oversight of the expansive property's four restaurants and bars.

• Mandarin Oriental has appointed Nicolas Dubort as General Manager. He will oversee all aspects of the 373-room property.

• Megan Hajduk is appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Williams Inn. She is responsible for the total sales efforts for the inn, as well as supervising sales related personnel.

• Williams Inn announced Mark Graham as its new General Manager. He is responsible for all aspects of Inn’s operations.

• Andrea Scherz named Executive Committee Chairman at The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd in New York. In addition to his role, he holds a board seat with Swiss Deluxe Hotels and the Gstaad-Saanenland Airport Association.

• Cole Wallace has been appointed as Hotel Manager at The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. He oversees all operating departments, including the rooms division, engineering, and food and beverage operations.

• Forbes has appointed Hermann Elger as Chief Executive Officer. He brings 30 years of luxury hospitality and business expertise.

• Julier Stewart has been appointed as Human Resources officer at M3 in Lawrenceville. The mission of the M3 Human Resources team is to provide an atmosphere that encourages opportunities for every team member.

• Donohoe Hospitality has appointed Cheryl Haughton as Vice President New Builds, Transitions, and Major Renovations. She is A two decade-plus hospitality veteran.

• Michael Golembe named as Vice President of Operations at Donohoe Hospitality. He has worked at multiple hotels in the full service, select service and extended stay categories.

• Steve Goldman has been named as Head of Hotel Acquisitions for the Americas at Starwood Capital Group. In his new role, he will work closely with Managing Director and Global Head of Hotel Asset Management, to lead the sourcing, underwriting and acquisition of hotel & leisure investments in the U.S. 

• Flamingo Resort has appointed Bob Geller as Area Director of Sales & Catering. He will oversee all sales and catering operations at Flamingo Resort as well as at their nearby sister property.

• Matt Skaletsky takes up the role of General Manager at Semiahmoo Resort, Golf, and Spa. He brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience to his new role.

• Maykel Escalona has been appointed as Director of Food & Beverage at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. He will oversee the culinary division of the hotel, including Jean-Georges Beverly Hills, The Rooftop by JG, Lobby Lounge, in-room dining, catering and banquet events.

• Sophia Hyder Hock has joined Destinations International as Chief Diversity Officer. She will provide leadership, coordination and strategic direction for the design and implementation of an overall strategy within the association.

• Dan Coyle has been promoted to Executive Vice President United States and Canada at Preferred Hotels & Resorts. He will head up a team of regional directors based out of offices.

• Enseo announced the appointment of Jeff Johns as Managing Director of Connected Solutions. He will lead the growth of room controls, energy management and IoT products in both hospitality and senior living.

• Josh Hill is appointed as Corporate Executive Chef at Pacifica Hotels. With nearly 15 years of experience, he brings exceptional leadership, organizational, and management skills that will elevate the culinary offerings at Pacifica Hotels.

• The Wayfarer Downtown LA appointed Collin Smelser as Executive Chef. He brings more than a decade of culinary expertise to the trendy downtown Los Angeles hotel.

• The Silver King Ocean Brasserie is pleased to announce the appointment of Othman Belkadi as its new General Manager. He will work alongside the culinary team to revamp and refine the restaurant's menus.

• Keith Siebenaler has been appointed as General Manager at Kimpton Hotel Born. He will oversee all sales, marketing, operations, events, and the overall guest experience for the property.

• Nicole Kent joins Signia by Hilton San Jose as complex director of revenue management for both Signia by Hilton San Jose, with over a decade of revenue management experience in the hospitality industry.

• Catherine Hendricks has been appointed as Complex Director of Sales and Marketing at Signia by Hilton San Jose. Her experience will be essential to introducing northern California to the Signa by Hilton brand and enabling the hotel to gain a superior market share of the city. 

• Signia by Hilton San Jose appointed Jimmy Sarfraz as General Manager. He is a hospitality veteran with over 15 years of experience.

• David Marriott named Chairman of the Board at Marriott International Inc. In this capacity, he oversaw Hotel Operations, Human Resources, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Market Strategy, Information Resources and Development & Feasibility.

• Marriott International, Inc named Isabella Goren as Board Member. Her multifaceted career in the travel business spans 27 years and includes both corporate and operational roles.

• Michelle Woodley named 2022 Board of Directors Chair at HSMAI Foundation in McLean. The Foundation's efforts to attract talent include encouraging and providing resources for students and other targeted audiences.

• Ambassador Chicago, a JDV by Hyatt Hotel announces the appointment of Keith Cestare to General Manager. He brings nearly two decades of hospitality experience to his new role.

• Ricardo Lutchman has been appointed as Director of Rooms at The Joseph, A Luxury Collection Hotel. He oversees day-to-day operations and activities of rooms departments, including housekeeping services, front office, concierge, and guest services.

• Don Brookshire has been appointed as Director of Food & Beverage at The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel. Throughout his 20-year career, he has led hotel operations and food and beverage teams at several prestigious hotel brands.

• Oscar Fonseca joins The Joseph Nashville as Executive Chef overseeing the culinary team across all of the hotel's distinct dining outlets, including Yolan, fine Italian restaurant.

• Chris Dunne has been promoted to Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer at Atrium Hospitality. His new role also includes responsibility for loan administration for the enterprise. 

• Atrium Hospitality announced the appointment of Kimberly Furlong as Chief Commercial Officer. She has more than 25 years of experience in the hotel industry, will lead the development and execution of all revenue generating efforts for the company.

• Rob Mangiarelli joins Atrium Hospitality as EVP & Chief Operating Officer. She brings nearly 30 years of finance, technology, and operations experience in the hotel industry. 

• The Beverly Hilton announced the appointment of Ryan Paterson as Director of Sales & Marketing. He joins the team to oversee all sales and marketing initiatives for the iconic hotel.

• The Watergate Hotel is pleased to announce the appointment of Manuel Martinez as General Manager. He brings over 20 years of experience to the hotel.

• Jason Reiplinger has been appointed as General Manager at Clayton Members Club & Hotel. With more than 20 years of experience, he is a fourth-generation hospitality industry changemaker.

• CWT has appointed Karen Farrell as Senior Vice President, Talent & Rewards. In this role, Karen and her team will develop and lead talent acquisition and talent management strategies, as well as spearhead the company's learning and development.

• Anna Jaszczyk joins The Gwen as the Director of Sales & Marketing. Most recently she was Director of Group Sales at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago.

• Katharine Degoma has been appointed as General Manager at The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel. She will be bringing 20-plus years of leadership expertise in hotel operations management and sales leadership.

• Hard Rock International announced Allie Evangelista as the new President of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol.  In this role, she will report directly to Jon Lucas, Chief Operating Officer of Hard Rock International. 
  
  
• Park Hyatt St. Kitts announced Lucas Curcio Perez as Executive Chef. She will oversee the resort’s three signature restaurants.
  

• Omni Atlanta Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce that Ramon Reyes named as General Manager of the year. He was responsible for providing strategic leadership of the property.
  
  
• Anoob Ashraf has been appointed as Executive Chef at The Nile Ritz-Carlton. He will drive and lead the culinary team of The Nile Ritz-Carlton, Cairo to further elevate the dining scene in Cairo.
  
  
• Hard Rock International announced Allie Evangelista as the new President of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol. In this role, she will report directly to Chief Operating Officer of Hard Rock International.

• Four Seasons Hotel Miami appoints Ali Mohammed as General Manager. He joins the team enthusiastic to embark on a journey that will bring a host of memorable new experiences.

• Seon Heo has been promoted as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Donohoe hospitality. During her tenure, she has played an active role in talent acquisition and providing strategic guidance and mentorship to the company's sales leaders. 

• Donohoe Hospitality announced the promotion of Neeta Mayur as Vice President, Revenue Management. She has 20-plus years of hospitality experience across front office operations, reservations, sales & marketing, and revenue management.

• JP Roberts has been appointed as General Manager at 21c Museum Hotel. He comes to 21c with extensive experience working for both independent hotels and luxury properties.

• The Laylow, Autograph Collection is pleased to announce the appointment of Fuchsia Yamashiro as the General Manager. She began her hospitality career as the Catering Coordinator and Restaurant Supervisor at the Tahiti Village in Las Vegas in 2010.

• Beth McClure has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Marketing at Beachy. The executive brings more than 20 years of experience in hospitality and technology to their position.

• Melissa Corrigan has been appointed as Vice President of People, Culture and Experiences at Harrah’s Resort Southern California. She brings more than 20 years of industry experience.

• The Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa Riverview Brandon has appointed Edward Carroll as its new General Manager. He is responsible for overseeing and executing the hotel and property operations.

• Ralph Scatena has been appointed as General Manager at HW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. This marks the first returning general manager in the 85-year history of the resort.

• Hotel Hartness has appointed Albert Mertz as General Manager. With more than 30 years of international luxury hospitality experience, he brings invaluable expertise to his new role. 

• Ralf Schlegel has been appointed as Executive Chef at The Peninsula Beverly Hills. He brings with him over 20 years of hospitality and Michelin-starred restaurant experience to the role.

• Sergio Perez joins the Kimpton George Hotel as General Manager. He most recently held the role of Task Force General Manager at the Kimpton George Hotel.  

• Swire Hotels is pleased to announce that Andres Garcia, has been appointed as the new General Manager, effective December 2021 and will be responsible for all aspects of the hotel.

• Landmark Hospitality is pleased to announce the appointment of AJ Capella as the Executive Chef. He brings an extensive professional background in the industry.

• Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk appointed Lisa Timbo as Area General Manager. She brings over 30 years of hotel industry experience to Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk and the Marriott family of hotels.

     South America:

• David Izquierdo has been appointed Executive Chef at The Santa Maria, Panama, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Golf Resort. He will be responsible for overseeing all food and beverage operations for the resort's onsite restaurants.

• Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa has appointed Patrick de Staercke as General Manager. He will oversee all operations as it prepares to open on June 30, 2022.

• The Kimpton Journeyman is pleased to announce Brian Cripps as its new Executive Chef. His love of cooking started at a young age.

• Crestline Hotels & Resorts, LLC (“Crestline”) announced the promotion Aaron Olson as Executive Vice President of Operations. He will lead Crestline’s hotel operations team to meet owner needs and support the operational focus.

• Carolee Moore has been promoted as Senior Vice President of Revenue Strategy at Crestline Hotels & Resorts, LLC. She is responsible for leading a team that identifies successful revenue strategies.

• Daxton Hotel announced the appointment of Rece Hogerheide as Executive Chef. He will oversee all culinary programming for Daxton Hotel.

• Alma Resort Cam Ranh welcomes Son Hoang Le as Director of Sales. He is a talented hospitality professional with more than 16 years of experience in sales, marketing, events, and operations.

• Evans Hotels names Matthew Adams as New Executive Vice president and Chief Operating Officer.  He built an impressive 30-year career in the hospitality industry managing iconic hotels.

• Evans Hotels appointed Anthony Belef as its new Chief Human Resources Officer. He brings 25 years of hospitality experience in both operations and human resources.

• Innisfree Hotels is proud to announce Paul Durant has been promoted to Food & Beverage Director. He will be responsible for all F&B operations.

• The Calncy, autograph collection is pleased to announce the appointment of Nany Fullmore as the property’s new General Manager. With more than 25 years in the hospitality industry, she brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience.

• Julian Smaldoni has been appointed as Managing Director at SLS Cancun Hotel & Residences. He will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of day-to-day operations, including rooms, sales and marketing, revenue management, food and beverage, finance, and entertainment. 

• Gabriele Lawrence has been appointed as Senior Director, Construction & Capital Projects for Flynn Properties Inc. She is responsible for the planning and execution for all Renovations, PIP’s, and Capital Projects across the portfolio of 30 hotels 

 
 
Middle East:

• Lamia Al Murid has been promoted as Executive Housekeeper at Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Jumeirah Group has made history by appointing its first female Emirati executive housekeeper.  

• Alessandro Montedoro has been promoted as Director of F&B Operations at the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal. His responsibilities will include maintaining the highest food standards, food costs and revenue. 

• Phil Roberts has been appointed as Cluster Director of Hotel Operations at Radisson Blu Dubai Media City and Park Inn by Radisson Motor City. He will be responsible for directing strategy across both properties. 

• Hessa Almazroa is appointed as the General Manager of Novotel Al-Anoud. She has more than 16 years of experience in management and the hospitality sector. 

• Courtyard by Marriott World Trade Center has promoted Munish Sharma to the position of Hotel Manager. He has worked at the property since its pre-opening days, starting out as the executive housekeeper in 2014. 

• Turgay Erdogan has been promoted as General Manager at Rixos Premium. He now finds himself in his first general manager position after 22 years of progression through the industry. 

• Stephen Meredith has been appointed as General Manager at Dream Doha. He will oversee all aspects of operations for the 265 guest rooms and suites, 35 private residences and eight exciting dining and nightlife venues, located in Doha's emerging Najma district. 

• Alwadi Doha, MGallery Hotel Collection, has brought in Ramsey Saarany as a new General Manager. He has worked in the Accor family since 2013 and is now taking up his first GM position.

• Manish Law has joined Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi as Director of Culinary. In his new role he will be strategizing the culinary offering at the Abu Dhabi property.  

• Klaus Assmann is the new Chief Executive Officer of Aldar Hotels and Hospitality. He will head up the entire hospitality division. 

• Nathan Noon has been appointed as Executive chef at Radisson Blu Hotel. He will be responsible for overseeing all culinary operations and development of the hotel's four outlets. 

• Rebecca Renee has been promoted as Marketing Manager at W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island. Its her first managerial position having been a marketing trainee since 2019. 

 
Europe:

• John Burns has been appointed as Board Advisor at Arvoia in Co. Kerry. He will assist the technology company as it embarks on an ambitious global plan for expansion and investment funding.

• Andrea Agrusow has been appointed to the newly created position of Chief Financial Officer of Adina Europe to help and support the Australian hotel company's long-term growth strategy and continued expansion across continental Europe.

• Alan Rae has been appointed as General Manager at The Kimpton Wade Hotel. He will seek to bring local businesses and partners into the hotel.

• CWT appointed Rachael Sullivan as Vice President, Human Resources. She will be the global HR business partner for CWT. 

• Kimpton Marlowe Hotel is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Tara Rothberg as Hotel Manager. She will work closely with the hotel's General Manager and will oversee all aspects of the hotel operation. 

• Fabian Zellinger has been promoted as Director Corporate Development, New Ventures & Workspaces Business at Ruby Hotels GmbH in Munich. He will report directly to founder and CEO Michael Struck.

• Mark Braune has been appointed Group Director Revenue & Distribution at Ruby Hotels GmbH in Munich. He leads the four-person Revenue & Distribution team, driving the expansion of Ruby's distribution landscape.

• Ruby Hotels GmbH has promoted Thomas Fink as Group Director Finance & Administration. He has already been successfully accompanying Ruby's growth for five years. 

• Cajetan Araujo has been appointed as General Manager at W Algarve & W Residences Algarve. He will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the final build, including recruitment, training the hotel's talent, and managing all pre-launch activity.

• Panos Almyrantis has been appointed as General Manager at Grand Hyatt Athens. He is an acclaimed professional in the tourism industry, has an outstanding academic background with several recognitions and a multi-year experience. 

• Villa d'Este Hotels is delighted to announce the appointment of Davide Bertilaccio as CEO of the group. From April 2022, he will lead the prestigious group, and its four properties. 

• Danilo Zucchetti named Vice President Operations at Baglioni Hotel Groups. Over the years, he has received important international awards and prizes. 

• Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel is proud to announce the arrival of Riccardo Canella as Executive Chef. Drawing on his global experience, he will elevate the culinary experience with his unique creative flair. 

• Maria Drăgulin joins the group as Director of Hotel Development at Accor in Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Czech Republic. She has 22 years of experience in the hospitality business.

• The Westin Pune Koregaon Park is pleased to announce the appointment of Rishi Mehra as Director of Food & Beverage. He will be responsible for managing all aspects of food and beverage hereon, ensuring the food philosophy of Westin is reflected through the restaurants & banquets.

• Rajan Malhotra joins Conrad Bengaluru as The Commercial Director. With over 18 years of experience in the hospitality industry, prior to this he was leading the sales and marketing team and was part of the pre-opening leadership team. 

• Supakit Uasamphanchai has been appointed as General manager at Eastin Resort Rayong. He brings with him more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry in which he has held various leadership roles. 

• Eastin Hotel Vientiane has announced the appointment of Pasuta Sukmanop as its new General Manager. With her 20-year career in the hospitality industry, she has built up extensive knowledge and experience of international and luxury brands. 

• Noppadon Rungsawang has been appointed as General Manager at Chiang Mai. He has extensive experience working in hotel management for different organizations. 

• Kiattiyos Aprachitpairin has been appointed as the General Manager at Travelodge Sukhumvit 11 and Travelodge Pattaya. He will oversee both Thailand hotels. 

• Suthathip Yapanan has been appointed as the new General Manager of Travelodge Phuket Town. He is a seasoned hotelier with a 20-year career in the hospitality industry.

• Ivan Suardi has been promoted as Executive Vice President Global Product and Concept Development at Rosewood Hotel Group. He will leverage his creativity in an expanded capacity to guide the group through an exciting roadmap ahead.  

• Capella Sydney announced the appointment of Marc Von Arnim as its new General Manager. It will open in 2023 and comprises 192 Guestrooms, 32 Suites and One Bedroom Suites. 

• Santanu Guha Roy has been appointed as the General Manager of Radisson Blu Resort and Spa Karjat. With a broad spectrum of hospitality experience of close to three decades, he has worked with renowned hospitality brands. 

• Saurabh Khanna has been appointed as General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Agra. With over 15 years of innovative experience, he has proven himself to be a consistent winner across various verticals. 

• Philipp Sebastian Frickhinger has been appointed as General Manager at Somerset Park Suan Phlu Bangkok. He brings to his role more than 25 years of senior management experience at luxury hotels. 

• Langham Hospitality has appointed Philip Ding as Head of Operations, Vice President China. He has over 25 years of experience in travel and hospitality. 

• Allen Khoo is appointed as General Manager of JEN Singapore. He is a seasoned hotelier with over 25 years of hospitality experience. 

• Timothy Lee joins Rosewood Phuket as Hotel Manager with more than 15 years in the industry. He had worked across multiple properties. 

• Romain Chanet has been appointed as General Manager at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. He is a 22-year hospitality industry veteran and third generation hotelier. 

• JLL announced the appointment of Kuraudo Ohashi as Executive Vice President, Head of Advisory, Hotels & Hospitality Group, Japan. He will serve the maturing Japanese hotel sector. 

• Pierre Marechal has joined JLL as Vice President, Asset Management, Asia Pacific. His responsibilities include asset management support regionally, initially focusing on Singapore and the Maldives.  

• Pierre Lang has been appointed as General Manager at Kamalaya Koh Samui. He brings a wealth of over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry across markets.
